What is an SMS QR code?

An SMS QR code opens the phone's messaging app with a recipient number and, optionally, a pre-written message. The user just taps send. It's ideal for opt-in campaigns, quick replies and support shortcuts.

How to create one

Enter the country code (with a leading +) and the phone number, plus an optional message. We strip formatting characters and build a standard SMSTO: payload that most phones recognize.

Number formatting

Include the country code so the message works internationally — for example +1 for the US and Canada. We keep the leading + and digits and remove spaces, dashes and brackets.

Where to use it

Use it on flyers ("Text to RSVP"), storefronts, event signage and product packaging to start a conversation without typing a number.

Privacy and security

The number and message are encoded locally and never uploaded. Nothing is sent until the person scanning presses send.

Limitations

Carrier and phone support for pre-filled SMS varies, and very long messages may be shortened. Test on both iOS and Android if it matters.

Frequently asked questions

Does it send the text automatically?

No — it opens a pre-filled message that the user sends themselves.

Do I need the country code?

Yes for reliability, especially across borders. Include the leading + and your country code.

Why is my message shortened on some phones?

Some devices limit the length of a pre-filled SMS body. Keep messages brief.
